Evaluation of genetic and induced resistance phenomena in cucumbers against the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita)

چکیده
Meloidogyne spp. is an important pest of cucurbits in tunnel farming vegetables Pakistan. A cucumber germplasm was evaluated for resistance against the root-knot nematode (RKN, incognita) based on number galls and egg masses recorded under glass house conditions. All accessions showed varying responses towards RKN inoculation. Out fifteen lines, two were found to be moderately susceptible M. incognita, ten while other three highly susceptible. For management nematodes, induced a accession (28294) by application (both drench foliar) elicitors, i.e., salicylic acid (SA) benzothiadiazole (BTH). The SA BTH significantly enhanced defence mechanism plants when compared control. Increased enzymatic activities as result elicitor applications determined through spectrophotometer correlate resistance. There significant increase control plants, which ultimately there decrease per plant. antioxidant activity also response infection. Both reported play pivotal roles inducing incognita.

Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp) are destructive agricultural pests that reduce the productivity of cultivated vegetables worldwide, especially when vegetables are cropped continuously in greenhouses. Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus L.), in particular, suffer extensive damage due to root-knot nematodes, and only a few wild species are known to be resistant. Grafting of cultivated plants to root...
